As your mother used to say…

It’s been quite some time since I have written and by way of explanation I’d like to remind you of what your mother used to say…

If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

– Your Mom

Over the past several months we have seen our customers’ releases slowly return to pre-pandemic levels. Now since November we are experiencing a dramatic shift into overdrive. If there was any doubt in your mind whether the automotive component manufacturing sector was going to bounce back, I can tell you unequivocally that from where I’m sitting we’ve freaking BOUNCED. So, I’ve finally got something nice to say!

Now the word on “The Street” is that Tesla has joined the S&P 500. What an amazing next chapter for Elon Musk and his many adventures! From starting the company that became Paypal, to Tesla, and SpaceX, with its sights on Mars. And then I guess “To infinity, and beyond!!!” And another thing, it all started with him playing video games as a child. So, parents, easy on those gamers!

Not to be outdone, apparently Apple is planning on entering the increasingly electric Automotive Industry! My mind boggles with imaginations of what an Apple car might look like, and whether they’ll call it an iCar, or maybe a CarPod?

2020 has been a hard year for everyone. On a personal level, the extended Hyland family experienced some very serious health issues and other hardships, but we also welcomed new babies (both biological and foster), sent some really great kids off to new schools (albeit mostly online), and celebrated new home purchases.

In addition to the pandemic, Hyland Machine spent the end of 2019 and about half of 2020 rebuilding from tornado damage to our building that happened on Memorial Day 2019. One of the memorable events we had last year to help us to move forward from that loss was an appreciation cookout right in the middle of the fallen remnants of the back of our building. Tesla of Cincinnati was kind enough to bring up a Model X and a Model 3 for our guys to test drive as a part of the event, so everybody could see where some of our parts ended up. So here’s a photo of the Model X with the gull-wing doors up surrounded by the scattered broken cinder blocks of our fallen building, rising like a Phoenix.

And also an adorable future Tesla owner dreaming of her future ride.

And how about the new style on this completely refurbished facility?

These are the nice things I have to say, and I’ll do my best to carry these things forward, and leave the garbage behind. I wish we were able to have a similar gathering now, but that will have to wait a bit. Maybe by Memorial Day 2021 we’ll be able to have another one to put the bow on a tumultuous couple years and carry on bravely into the future. In the meantime, here’s wishing you and yours a very happy new year!

I wonder if they’ll end up needing cars on Mars?
